Apple is Entering the VR/AR Space With The Apple Vision Pro

Apple Vision Pro creates an infinite canvas for apps that scales beyond the boundaries of a traditional display and introduces a fully three-dimensional user interface controlled by the most natural and intuitive inputs possible — a user’s eyes, hands, and voice. Featuring visionOS, the world’s first spatial operating system, Vision Pro lets users interact with digital content in a way that feels like it is physically present in their space. The breakthrough design of Vision Pro features an ultra-high-resolution display system that packs 23 million pixels across two displays, and custom Apple silicon in a unique dual-chip design to ensure every experience feels like it’s taking place in front of the user’s eyes in real time.

At its core, the Apple Vision Pro harnesses the power of augmented reality (AR) to provide users with an immersive and interactive experience. By seamlessly integrating the physical and virtual worlds, this device offers a range of possibilities across various industries.

One of the key features of the Apple Vision Pro is its advanced navigation capabilities. Whether you’re exploring a new city or trying to find your way through a complex building, this device acts as your personal guide. By overlaying digital information onto your real-world view, it provides turn-by-turn directions, points of interest, and even real-time translations.

Education is another area where the Apple Vision Pro truly shines. Imagine a classroom where students can witness historical events unfold before their eyes, dive deep into the mysteries of the universe, or dissect complex scientific concepts through interactive simulations. With its ability to overlay informative visuals onto the physical world, the Apple Vision Pro has the potential to revolutionize the learning experience.

Entertainment and gaming industries are also set to be transformed by the Apple Vision Pro. Picture yourself stepping into your favorite video game, with characters and objects appearing in your living room. Whether it’s battling virtual opponents, solving puzzles, or immersing yourself in a virtual world, this device elevates the gaming experience to unprecedented levels.

The Apple Vision Pro represents a significant leap forward in augmented reality technology. By seamlessly integrating the virtual and physical worlds, it opens up endless possibilities across industries, revolutionizing the way we navigate, learn, entertain, and work. As Apple continues to refine and expand the capabilities of the Apple Vision Pro, we can expect to see even more transformative applications that shape the future of how we see and experience the world around us.

LastPass to go passwordless

LastPass to go passwordless

Today leading password manager LastPass is going “passwordless”. It means that to log into LastPass Vault you won’t need to type your master password anymore and instead you will authenticate with a push notification sent to LastPass authenticator installed on your phone.

More and more services will go passwordless in the future so this is a good time to review how authenticators and two factor authentication (2FA) work. Happy reading and be safe with 2FA!

Create a Linux and Web server on Google Cloud Platform for FREE

Create a Linux and Web server on Google Cloud Platform for FREE

Today were are going to go a little more technical. Would you like to have your own web server running on Linux in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for FREE?

Yes this is possible! GCP has a free tier that allows to run a single server (1 CPU, 1GB RAM, 30GB storage and static public IP address) for free! Google states “There is no charge to use these products up to their specified free usage limit. The free usage limit does not expire, but is subject to change.”

So make the most of this offer!

Note that Google will ask for your credit card details to verify identity but there won’t be any charge. You also get $300 of free credits to try out other GCP products.

To make things easier for you, I have made four videos that describe all the steps involved.

Make sure to turn subtitles on as there are a couple of steps that I forgot to mention in the videos and I’ve added them in the subtitles and in the description. Forgive the accidental blur at the beginning of Part 1 as I managed to blur myself with the YouTube Editor🤦🏻‍♂️

For good measure, I have added how to install WordPress in Part 3 so you can have a beautiful website up and running in minutes!

Part 4 shows you how to secure your web server to keep the hackers away.

Note: if you want to access your server by name (and install the SSL certificates for secure traffic), you will need a domain name. You can have cheap personal ones (yourname.id.au) starting at A$20 per year at Webcentral.

Enjoy! Feel free to let me know what you think.

Parental Controls section now complete!

Parental Controls section now complete!

I’m glad to announce that the first draft of the Parental Control section is now complete … almost … I still have the Playstation bit to do but I don’t own a PS so it’s going to be difficult to achieve.

See the overall Parental Controls page.

The Android section took me a whole day to complete but it was worth it. Partly because I am not an Android user so I had to learn everything on the fly using an old Samsung Galaxy S5.

Feel free to make suggestions.

In the meantime, I will continue with the Cloud and Security sections.
